Meet our coaches.

Coaches are invaluable in the development of an athlete’s skills. In addition to being supportive and skilled, our coaches create fun, safe, and friendly environments for all skaters. All our coaches are certified by Skate Canada in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCPP).

  • Jean Klooster

    SENIOR COACH

    Jean is a long-time skating coach with more than 40 years of experience! She teaches in our CanSkate, Shooting Stars, and StarSkate programs. Her areas of specialization: Dance & skills.

    Certification: NCCP Level 2 Certified Figure Skating

  • Jeannette Giffin Shaw

    SENIOR COACH

    Jeannette has been coaching skating for 35 years. She coaches PreCanSkate, CanSkate, PrePower CanSkate, Shooting Stars, and StarSkate. She's brought skaters from CanSkate through to their Gold Level in all disciplines. When a skater can find improvement in self confidence, or make those first 10 steps on their own - it's a win-win. Jeannette also loves helping skaters prepare for performance events, such as the December holiday show, test days, and the year-end carnival, that bring skaters together to show their achievements as a community club.

  • Sarah Rutherford

    COACH

    Sarah began her professional coaching career 4 years ago and coaches PreCanskate, Canskate, Shooting Stars, StarSkate and Adult figure skating. She is passionate about helping her skaters reach and surpass their goals, both on and off the ice and aspires to serve as a mentor for skaters rather than just a coach. Sarah also enjoys coaching all disciplines of the StarSkate program - freeskate, dance, skills and artistic.
